Sun. 9. [9 April 1899] Tried to go up Pentelikus [Pendelikon] and
breakfasted at 7, but it poured so we retired and wrote letters till 9. At
10 to the Museum where we presently found Mr Aide and Mr Hird
being taken round by Mr Pritchard and joined them. Mr P. rude but
interesting. After lunch Papa and I walked round by Lysicrates and
photographed on the Acropolis where Uncle Tom joined us. Very
windy. Dined at the Legation. Aide, Hird, Corbett, Spicer, the Italian
minister and his wife (Duc Al [space left blank]), Mr Dyer, by whom I
sat, and his wife and daughter, and Mr Mackenzie with a very shy
sister. After dinner Miss Dyer played extremely well on the fiddle.
