Thurs. 18. [18 May 1899] Went again to the Ansstellung and the Cranachs, then joined Caroline and we went to the Albertinum to see statues. A very fine archaic figure, the Dresdner Palladion, a good Zeus, one or two Diadumenos figures of the time of Polycleitos and some fauns, copies from Praxiteles. Also an interesting coloured Klinger bust - the neue Salome. After lunch we went by tram and ferry to Pillnitz, a charming place, the gardens full of pollarded lilacs and beech hedges. Came back all the way by steamer - perfectly charming. We read Nietsche [sic] all the way home. In the evening we all went to Fra Diavolo which I enjoyed immensely.
