Sun 21. [21 May 1899] Whitsunday, cold and stormy. Domnul and I tried to go to the gallery, but it was shut; saw the new monument to the Old Emperor but it's not a success. Then went to an Ansstellung of Secessionists, most interesting and some very lovely. An exquisite Liebermann of charity girls, Dutch, and some awfully good Leibls, also a lovely Klinger etching. F. [Florence] and His Ex went to church. After lunch we all slept. Watched Domnul and His Ex play a game of billiards till dinner which was very merry. Domnul went away at 10 F. went to bed, and I sat up talking to His Ex till near 1. - Lord Salisbury's letter, most amusing, saying that he cdn't be described as the Emperor's enemy for he had no feelings at all about him; the Rhodes dinner, my family and his sons' prospects. He was a perfect angel.
