Rounton Grange Sep 6 Dearest Mother. I understand then that I'm not to ask Lady B. unless you tell me that Madame d'E has refused? I will keep your letter to Lady B. until further instructions.
I motored back yesterday, a delicious day, and got in for lunch. I was very sorry to leave Moll, and her babes. We had a delightful evening, she and Charlie and I, and I enjoyed it all very much. Pauline says Bo- bo- to the dogs in the picture on the stairs. Isn't she clever! She made great friends with me.
Sir W. R. [William Ramsay] came at 3 and the Aclands at 4. We had tea early and they went off to their meeting while Sir W and I walked in the garden and had a most satisfactory talk. Then we came in and looked through inscriptions and plans and photographs. We had a very pleasant dinner with the Aclands and they all liked one another.
Now Annie is coming and I am going out riding with her after talking to Hanagan about the Club. I shall go to tea at Mt Grace.
I'm quite alone and feel a great peace!
I do hope your travels are agreeable. Your affectionate daughter Gertrude
